Orchidaria

A romanticized archival of vintage orchids, inspired by 20th-century botanical studies and the fragility and beauty of preserved flowers.

This piece features scanned images from the book “Malayan Orchid Hybrids” by M. R. Henderson and G.H. Addison , originally published in 1956. I found this book at a vintage book shop in jacksonville, florida called chamblins bookmine. I have always been fascinated with the beauty in orchids and how diverse they are. The archival botanical photographs serve as a foundation for exploring themes of preservation, and Hybridity. modernistic preservation through woven art.
